My Students

I teach at an impacted urban high school with 3,600 students. Nearly all of our students are designated low socioeconomic status with a large population of English language learners. Despite our population, our high school believes that every student can achieve and strives to push them forward to a secondary educational option.

The students who take my classes are generally reading and writing at lower than grade level.

They need resources to help them close the achievement gap and succeed.

My Project

After a year at home, we're trying to reconnect our students to the school. We decided to restart the Cosplay Club, but include more practical sewing and quilting skills. We plan to start with making masks and making quilt squares for quilts that will be donated to charity.

Students will also have the tools that they need to create costumes and let their imagination go wild.

Thanks to a previous Donors Choose project, we funded two sewing machines. Now we're trying to expand access and provide a space for students to learn basic sewing and costuming skills that they can use for a lifetime.
