Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school resides in the Bronx. A majority of the students in this community are from low income and transitional housing. Despite their challenges, our students are charismatic, energetic, and have a passion for learning. They come to school every day with an intrinsic motivation and a bright spirit ready for new experiences. Our school community is comprised of English language learners, special needs and at risk students. A majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch and breakfast is available to students every morning.

My Project

Some of our families don’t have access to technology but would like to extend learning to the home. A copy machine/printer would allow us to make excess copies of resources for students. Our students would love to have their own math and reading centers in color that they would be able to take home to use with their family.

We will also be able to provide parent resources such as pamphlets, articles and worksheets.

One of our goals is to increase parent engagement and encourage families two work together to support and maximize student learning. We would like to bridge the learning gap.
