My Students

My students are a part of the NYSAA program known as ACES. These amazing students are a low function population in the larger special education population. Despite being in High School many of my students cannot read beyond a first grade level. They are a part of a work study program as well.

They develop functional life skills and academics in one place.

This helps them to gain trainable career-oriented skills for life after they leave our program. The students have the opportunity to stay in this program until they are 21, meaning many of my students will be with me for 8 years. They work hard and deserve the best we can give them.

As a Math, Transition and Work Study teacher, it is my job to bring them a traditional high school curriculum in a way that they can understand. I do this in a variety of ways, trying to help them maximize their potential.

My Project

Our students want to contribute and participate in the community like everyone else. For them, learning new things and working with technology takes a great deal of practice and support.

Having access to a copier in their classroom will help our students develop a variety of functional life skills.

Providing a copy service for teachers will support our students' social-emotional development as they make valuable contributions to their community.

Currently, our students share a copier with the department office, where they lack support of a teacher to guide them through problem solving technical issues. Having access to the copier in the classroom will allow the teacher to support students through the process of diagnosing and fixing jams and errors.
