My Project

Coping skills are not always skills that come naturally. Many young students need explicit instruction to be able to identify their big feelings, find the right coping skill to use, and use it appropriately in order to calm down and return to a task. Even adults can have trouble with this, so you can imagine how hard it is for our younger elementary students!

Please help our students to create their own coping kits to use when they're having big feelings!

Many of our classrooms and offices have calm corners, fidget buckets, and calming kits. These are amazing, but can be really hard for some kids to remember to use when they're in the middle of big feelings, crisis, or extreme frustration, especially if they're not easily and immediately accessible to them in the moment. Big feelings can happen anywhere, especially outside of the classroom. Our goal is to create individualized coping kits for kids who need them so that we can help them use their toolkit in the moment. Our students are amazing, creative, and come to school so excited to learn - please help us to give them the tools to be able to learn with a calm body and mind!
