My Students

Ninety-eight percent of the students in my school receive free or reduced-priced lunch. Our Title I school is is populated with almost 350 students. Our students need motivation throughout the year. Students who exhibit positive lifelong habits, such as reading, makes my heart skip a beat.

My students are fun-loving and eager to learn.

Once they enter our doors, they become our future. They are curious and fearless all at the same time. We are learning this school year virtually. It is key that they continue to read and show comprehension.

My Project

I care about our students' social and emotional well-being during this virtual learning environment! These books will aid us in helping our students adjust to face to face instruction and hybrid learning. Students have not been in the building since March 2020. We anticipate students returning to the building within the next few weeks.

Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.

The books will promote more positive attitudes toward oneself, others, and tasks including enhanced self-efficacy, confidence, persistence, empathy, connection and commitment to school, and a sense of purpose.

Students reading these books will also display more positive social behaviors and relationships with peers and adults and show reduced conduct problems and risk-taking behavior. Discussing these books will decrease emotional distress, improve test scores, grades, and attendance.
