This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am trying to get 65 copies of Night for my students so that they can "bear witness" to the Holocaust. These books would be for my two sophomore World Literature classes. This is a tough group of kids who are not always excited about reading. Over the past two weeks, I have introduced them to the Holocaust and they are so interested! They are shocked by the atrocities and fascinated by the endless stories of courage, sacrifice and survival. As the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, I feel especially passionate about the topic and want to teach these kids Night--but alas! The school only has a handful of copies (I thought we had a full set, which is why I started teaching it already) and has no more money to buy books this year.

I know that this book will grab my students. Now if I can just grab some copies of it we will be set! Know too that these books will be used for years to come (I will certainly teach it again and again).

All we need is those 65 copies of Night and we can continue on the journey we have already begun with so much promise.

You will be helping to broaden the world of students who know so little beyond their neighborhoods. Help me help them to see how much bigger the world is than that and how much responsibility they have to make the world a better, kinder, safer place.
