Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This may seem like a strange request, but it is really out of a need that has arisen in my classroom. Our school does not have what many schools have, which is a copier that is free for teachers to use.

Our entire school must share one copier, which is manned by a school aide who puts our requests in a queue in order of school-wide importance.

This includes mass mailings to the parents, grade-specific assessments for grades pre-K to 5, homework packs for vacations, etc. Unfortunately, this system does not leave much room for smaller requests such as copies for my bilingual special education class. The children might just need a worksheet to reinforce something that they need more help with, or copies of a book for guided reading. Many times, my requests are placed at the bottom of the queue and by the time I receive the materials, we have moved past those lessons. I have received copies up to a month after I have requested them! I've been copying things at Staples, but it has gotten expensive and I find it difficult to continue to do this. Just this past weekend I spent 40 dollars copying guided reading books and special assessments for the children who need them.

My Project

Donor, with a multifunction machine, I will be able to print out books and materials on the spot as needed. I will no longer have to wait to dispense letters to parents regarding things that are going on in my class, thereby improving my communication with them and making them feel more involved. The children will also be able to have access to more materials, as many times we will find something on the Internet that goes along with what they are learning in class. The students would really benefit from having access to materials outside of the "come one, come all" curriculum we currently have. They are in special education because of their learning disabilities and should have extra time and materials to learn from. Expecting them to learn solely from the same curriculum as everyone else is unfair, when we know that they have special needs.

If a multifunction machine were to be donated to us, the students would benefit by having the necessary materials at their fingertips.

Assessments, worksheets, reports, and books would be able to be downloaded and printed (or copied) instantaneously instead of halfway through a semester. This would make an incredible difference in their learning in my classroom. Thank you for your support!
