Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students range from Kindergarten to 4th grade. I teach special education/ resource math and writing with focus on individualized IEP's per student with specific disabilities ranging from autism, emotional disturbances and intellectual disabilities.

"Our school has a very high percentage of students with learning disabilities with 15% of all students are learning disabled, which is much higher than the median across all reported elementary schools in Texas (10%)."

These students come from all walks of life and have limited access in their home for updated technology. Students here are strong willed to achieve a specific greatness within each personal accomplishment that they set for themselves.

My Project

Technology tools accommodate the learning curriculum to meet the students’ individual learning plans. With touch screens instead of pen and paper or a point-and-click mouse, tablets can be much easier to use by students with fine motor difficulties. They also help disorganized students by consolidating specific individualized learning apps, note taking strategies and personal progress monitoring all in one device. Taking the pen and paper out of the everyday work criteria will help increase the students skill set, participation and self- confidence.

Not all students learn the same way, and today’s classrooms are composed of students with varying learning styles and abilities.

It makes sense, therefore, that providing a wide range of learning materials is key to engaging all students, while providing them with the tools they need to learn and be successful.
