This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project aims to create effective cool-down stations for our students with disabilities. Our students have autism, ADHD, anxiety, and other mental health disorders.

A cool-down corner offers several benefits for students with disabilities by providing a safe, calming space to regulate their emotions and sensory input.

Students with autism tend to want a quiet space or a dark space, a tent in the classroom will be beneficial to help regulate their emotions.

These items will promote:

Emotional Regulation: Helps students manage feelings of frustration, anxiety, or overwhelm by offering a quiet place to self-soothe.

Sensory Support: Reduces sensory overload by offering a low-stimulation environment, which can be especially helpful during moments of sensory overwhelm. Independence and Self-Awareness: Encourages students to recognize their emotions and take initiative in using calming strategies, fostering self-regulation skills. Prevention of Escalation: Provides a proactive way to prevent meltdowns or disruptive behavior by allowing students to step away and regroup before emotions escalate.
