My Students

My classroom is a fun and creative learning environment for Third grade students with visual impairments such as blindness and low vision. Many of my students also have related disabilities such as autism, learning, and emotional disabilities. My students require direct instruction of social emotional learning in the classroom and school environment.

To help my students appropriately address their feelings, struggles, aggression, and emotions, I would like to enhance our classroom Cool Down Corner with engaging sensory activities, supplies, and tools.

My Project

The students in my class face different challenges in their lives that cause frustration, anger, and emotional upset. As a result, academic instruction can often cause my students to feel overwhelmed and frustrated.

We are requesting sensory tools and activities for our classroom Cool Down Corner to encourage positive coping skills.

It is my goal to enhance the Cool Down Corner in our classroom to help my students develop positive coping strategies for when they are feeling upset, frustrated, angry, overwhelmed, or just need a break.

In this area, the students will have access to an assortment of soothing, calming, and/or engaging sensory activities. The students will also be provided with a visual/verbal timer to set an agreed upon time for their break.
