Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Despite that this school year started as a difficult one, my students and families are resilient and kind. One of the initiatives that help us create community has been using social, emotional learning, resources, and tools to support each other. My favorite lessons are about gratitude and kindness towards themselves and others to nurture their self-compassion and self-care. This year I want to help in creating sustainable practices to continue developing hope and healing moments. We are undergoing unprecedented times, and keeping the spirit up is one of the simple things we all can do to continue moving forward to a new time in our lives. Finding grateful moments throughout the day and an inspiring act of kindness can nurture the hope that things will get better.

My Project

I love receiving mail at home, and I know my students do too. When my students received care packages from me, they feel care and love, and I love to make them feel that way. The materials I chose for my project will help my students practice mindfulness to be calm and focused throughout their days, and this practice will help them with their academics. If our bodies are relaxed, we can learn better. Sometimes, just taking a few minutes to breathe throughout the day with intentionality can help our bodies to relax and find the attention we need to do the things we are expected to do.

Virtual classes can be draining in many different ways, and one of them is by creating device fatigue.

The students can use these items at home and engage in self-directed mindful moments. I will be mailing my students breathing exercise cards, motivational bookmarks, and inspirational stickers. They can use the stickers for their electronic devices, phones, books, water bottles, and anything they choose to put these on. These items will be an ongoing reminder that we need to keep moving forward and uplifted for the time being despite we are virtual. I believe a healthy mindset can be the greatest gift to our bodies, and these tools will support that idea.
