Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

As a school counselor, I have a wonderful opportunity of connecting with students across the building in a different way than their teachers do. Students can come to me and not only learn but relax when needed. I believe that many relationships that I have built with my students come from giving them a safe space to go when they do not feel heard by others.

The goal of this project is to provide students with materials that can be utilized not only in my office but in small group and classroom lessons as well.

At the end of the school year, I ask students what they would like to see in the upcoming year. All of the items listed were things that students mentioned on their list. By receiving some of the games, kinetic sand, and building blocks listed I will have another opportunity to show them that someone who cares about them is actually listening.
