My Project

Every child encounters a time when they experience overwhelming emotions. Without self-regulation or a safe place to escape, these emotions can spiral. During these five minutes, the student will be able to pick something from the basket of stress relief and sensory toys. Teaching children how to keep themselves in control in emotionally charged situations will help them enormously throughout their schooling and lives. When children feel great frustration, anger, sadness or anxiety, they become confused and may be unsure how to control their emotions.

Our "Calm Down Space" will be a special area in our classroom to provide students with a place to consider their emotions and choose from a variety of materials in a safe space to help them go from a state of fear, anger, or sadness into a state of calm and security so that they are able to fully engage in learning with our class family.
