My Project

My students are a great bunch of little learners. They come from low-income families that sometimes struggle to provide basic necessities such as adequate food. As a teacher, I try to fill in the gap as best as possible.

On Fridays, I implement Fun Food Fridays.

I guide my students in how to follow a recipe to create fun snacks. This means they are learning things like counting, measuring, and how to put things together to make their snacks.

Having a full tummy is important to our kids. They can't focus on learning when their tummies are growling. By adding in elements of math as well as the social aspect of "cooking" my students get tons of benefits from these types of snacks. We will be making things like spiders using Oreos and pretzel sticks, fire trucks with colored icing, graham crackers, vanilla wafers, and even polar bears with pudding cups and vanilla wafer ears.
