Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year many of my students have expressed interest in cooking but do not cook at home with anyone. Some of them watch cooking videos in the hope of being able to cook on their own. So this year I have decided that we will have a cooking project once a week. But we need more materials for cooking!

Doing cooking projects each week has drastically increased my students' attendance and brought joy to our classroom.

Cooking is a life skill! We are building my students ability to follow directions and measure using organic and real life situations. Also, due to my students' sensory needs many of them have limited diets. Cooking is encouraging them to try new foods they would not normally try on their own.

The tools from this project will open our world to various different projects. Aprons will protect students clothing. Many of them do not like getting dirty due to various sensory differences. While the knives and peelers will allow students to safely help with preparation. It is vital that the students have opportunities to really be involved in the process of cooking so that they are more likely to try the items we make. I know my students would be thrilled to have more cooking opportunities.
