My Students

My Pre-K program is in an urban public school in Lower Manhattan. It is part of a Title 1 school which means that most families are low income. There is a strong sense of community among the staff, children and families. This is the school that I attended as a child and it brings me joy to come back and be a part of the community again. Our demographics have changed and we are now a school that has more of a variety of ethnic and racial backgrounds. The children would be excited and enthusiastic about sharing traditions and recipes with their fellow classmates.

My Project

In looking forward to returning to the classroom, I would like to expand the children's experiences in the culinary arts. We will cook dishes for the many different holidays to enjoy together.

They will be able to learn about different cultures and traditions as well as share their favorite recipes from home.

Since we will be cooking at least once a month, using the containers to keep ingredients fresh will be key. The mini utensils and measuring cups and spoons will be the perfect size for their smaller hands. After cooking, they can look forward to enjoying the meal together family style.
