My students need various types of equipment to cook multicultural cuisine.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Sinanan's classroom raised $539

My Students
Cooking with my young children provides an opportunity to engage in social experiences, measuring, scientific investigations and exploring other cultures with our taste buds!
My students are from diverse families who live in Harlem.
They are eager to learn through hands-on experiences such as cooking. Cooking in the classroom provides an opportunity to create multicultural cuisine, especially recipes that are familiar to our student population. Students will be able to explore other cultures by cooking and tastings our cuisine. Our school is currently serving Pre-Kindergarten to 3rd grade. Each year we will add a grade until 8th grade. We have an amazing student body, and have parents, teachers, and administrative staff that truly care about children.
My Project
My students need various types of equipment that will create more opportunities for cooking multicultural cuisine. Our school community is very diverse and one opportunity to explore the various cultures in our school is by cooking. We will gain a sense of appreciation for our similarities and differences through the multicultural cuisine that we cook. The children will also have opportunities for critical thinking and scientific investigations by cooking multicultural recipes. For example, children will be able to discuss how and why the consistency of dry ingredients change when wet ingredients are added. They will also be able apply math skills to a real life experiences, such as counting and measuring the correct amount of a specific ingredient. My students will also learn about the importance of healthy eating habits through our hands-on cooking experiences.
The listed equipment and materials will improve my classroom in various ways.
My students will have an opportunity to participate in creating multicultural cuisine, expanding their understanding of the similarities and differences we share as a classroom community. Cooking in the classroom will also encourage my students to try new food items and will hopefully inspire healthy eating habits.
