This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Few things in this world help people understand, appreciate, and value other cultures quite like food. What can I say? We love to eat.

It is up to us to find ways for students to experience and relate to societies that differ from ours, foster a love of exploring new cultures, and build thoughtful global citizens.

In social studies, students get to learn about different ways of life, natural resources, and traditional dishes of people and places around the world, but oftentimes these things feel foreign and unrelatable.

Many of our students have never ventured outside of our county lines! Students on our campus are hungry (pun intended) for deep learning enrichment. They are always wanting to dig deeper into the content and find tangible connections from their learning to the real world. I'd like to provide the opportunity for students to experience cooking different cultural dishes as they learn about these people and places in our sixth grade World Cultures class.

Cooking in class would be an innovative and highly creative way for students to connect more deeply with a cross curricular mix of social studies content, literacy, math, and fine arts. Cooking is a totally practical and transferable life skill that so many of our kids never get any exposure to.

We need your help getting this project rolling! Your donation will provide the most important and costly pieces of the portable kitchen stations I am working to build. With your support, we will have the foundational necessities of induction cook tops and cookware!

Cooking in class will build life long memories, spark new interests, and expose kids to cultures and foods they have not experienced before! Thank you for your support!
