This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a middle school Social Worker in the heart of the South Bronx seeking funding for a comfortable office chair for my students to sit in while sharing difficult thoughts and feelings.

All day long, my students sit in hard plastic chairs in their classrooms and I want to create a comfortable environment for them while they share personal struggles with me in my office.

My students come from an community where having a tough exterior is necessary for survival. Becoming vulnerable emotionally is something that does not come easily for them. Having an office space that is welcoming and looks different from their academic classrooms helps to break down some of their hard exteriors just a little.
