My Students

I teach an exciting, motivated, and creative group of fifth-grade students. My student population is very diverse.I have some who are working below grade level, while others need to extend their thinking and apply the skills they have mastered in meaningful ways.

My students enjoy coming to school each day and learning from each other.

They use their critical-thinking skills to ask good questions and analyze information. They want to know about our community and how they can have a positive impact on it.

My Project

This project will provide my fifth graders an opportunity to collaborate with the primary students at our school & encourage a love of reading, while encouraging students to learn more about our environment. To do this, I’m requesting a variety of picture books along with the stuffed animal that accompanies the story. My students will help the primary students read the requested books, and through this process they will learn how to become a mentor to younger students. The books I am requesting, such as the Lorax, will help students learn more about our environment and how to protect it. Oh The Thinks You Can Think and Your Fantastic Elastic Brain will help student learn that they are able to be the creative problem solvers we need to help solve the problems of tomorrow. The books on sharks, bears, porcupines, squirrels, and insects will help students learn the role that each animal plays in our environment. A few of the other books, like Dragons Love Tacos and Elephant and Piggie just encourage a love or reading. I am also requesting toner for our printer. After reading a book with a younger student, together they will write a short book review. My students will type the review and print it with the requested toner.

This project provides a great opportunity for the students at my school to collaborate and to learn more about protecting our environment.

I am hopeful that I can get these valuable resources into the hands of my students with the help of generous donors.
