My Students

All of my students are English language learners. They are a very diverse group, from all over the world. All students in my classroom have had different exposure to schooling and education. Some students have never been in a real classroom before, others went to private schools in their mother country. Some are learning how to read and write for the first time, while others are working on perfecting their grammar and vocabulary in English.

We not only focus on learning English, but also learning about the culture, customs, and traditions in the U.S.

We strive to bridge the educational gap, and transition students to mainstream classrooms.

I believe education is the great equalizer, even in an urban school such as ours. Giving students the tools they need to succeed can be the difference between them graduating or dropping out.

My Project

When students have the chance to highlight a reading, use a student white board and erasable markers, lessons are more engaging. Currently, I cannot give students pencils and erasers because I don't have enough.

Having the right tools is empirical for educational growth and success.

It not only promotes equity, but also the proper function of a classroom. Students are less likely to sleep, or disengage, if they have the tools and are able to participate properly.
