Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds. Our school is one of the most ethnically diverse schools in South Queens. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Mandarin, Cantonese, Polish and Arabic. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics. We are expanding our Technology Programs to include Pre-Engineering, Building Construction Technology and Farming Technology. Students have expressed interest in learning about the above. Our school has interior and exterior space for the above programs, but we need help with resources.

My Project

Students need these items to work safely in their new construction technology classroom. Eye protection is paramount and the aprons will protect their clothing from being ruined as they complete their construction projects. Many students cannot financially afford the cost of these items or would bring a less quality item into class and risk the danger of being injured. Completing their projects requires physical work.

Students will learn to construct hands on projects while wearing personal protective equipment, hence gaining real world experience.

Students will be using hand and power tools, hardware, lumber and fasteners to create and construct in class projects.
