My Students

Creativity, imagination, problem solving and collaboration are key components to authentic learning in our classroom. I have high expectations for every student. It is my responsibility to provide a variety of learning opportunities to help each child meet or exceed their goals. Our school is a K-2 school with approximately 1,100 children enrolled.

We have a diverse population of ethnic backgrounds, a growing ELL population, a high percentage of students who need accelerated learning opportunities, and students who need reading and math interventions to help them establish a firm foundation for successful learning.

My Project

After visiting the Ron Clark Academy last spring (thanks to DonorsChoose.org), I learned some new and engaging teaching methods to motivate my second-grade​ students. One of my biggest takeaways was learning about room transformations. Each month our second-grade teachers plan to transform our rooms into other themes such as the All-American Cafe, Glow Room, Operating Room, a Construction Zone and Safari Adventures. I would love to have various props to make the transformations become more realistic. I'm requesting items such as hard hats, construction vests & signs, tools, table clothes and toy sets for the Construction Zone. For the Safari Adventures, I would love to have safari hats, themed table covers, binoculars, animal curtains to hang, greenery and animal sunglasses. These transformations incorporate the state standards in all subject areas with fun-filled activities to make learning fun and students are completely engaged in the learning process.
