Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It's almost time to go back to school, but what will it look like? My new prekindergartners will be coming to "school" during this "new" normal. For many of them, this will be their first experience with school so I want to make it as easy as possible for them and their families to adapt to this new type of learning.

We will have a blended learning experience that needs to flow seamlessly between school and home to allow my kids the experience and love of learning that they would get in the classroom.

Many of our families have been affected by this pandemic, emotionally as well as economically. I do not want to put anymore burden on them by asking for double supplies. Also, I would like home learning supplies to mimic classroom supplies. If families have to pay for double materials, this will put undue stress on a population that already has many other obstacles to overcome.

My Project

Since we will have a blended learning environment, I want my kids to have consistency at home as well as in the classroom. After going through remote learning since March, I realized my kids did not have the materials at home to do some assignments. Even fun activities couldn't be accomplished because they didn't have the proper tools and families were unable to go to the store to get them. With your help, my kids can have supplies at home to help with their remote learning when they are not in the building.

They will be able to paint and create self-portraits using crayons in the color of their skin and be proud of those creations.

They will be able to write and draw in their notebooks to keep routines alive while learning remotely at home. They will be able to say, "This is just like I do at school." I want my new learners to not look at this time as strange, although we adults know it is certainly different. I want my kids to see that in-school learning and remote learning go hand in hand, routines can be consistent, and learning is FUN no matter whether it's done in the building or remotely. The right tools will make all the difference in their wanting to learn.
