Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic kids eager to learn. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless, living in garages or multiple families in one residence. My kids' parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write, and learn!

My students worry about coming to school and staying safe; and yet, they still want to come to school to explore, learn and grow.

I am teaching online and trying to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science, and social studies.

My Project

I have received a wonderful monitor that I can use at home while distance teaching. This is going to enable me to utilize two screens, to see all of my students at once while I share my first screen. Unfortunately, I cannot attach the monitor to my home laptop because it requires a specific USB-C to HDMI adapter. Adapters connect laptops to needed devices. The adapters I am requesting will help me connect my students to many of our resources, including books and photos.

With these adapters, I will be able to split my screen and view all of my students while sharing materials from my laptop.

The USB-C to HDMI adapter is required for me to "swipe my students up to the second screen" so that I can see them while still sharing the lesson on my home screen, viewing both screen simultaneously. I will be able to see all of their faces to check for understanding. The USB-C to USB adapter will allow me to attach any USB to my computer, including the CD/DVD External Drive, to share information and pictures with my kids. A non-slip riser will allow me to rest the laptop on the stand while keeping my writing paper, books and notes directly in front of me while teaching. So, I will have the monitor above the laptop which will be above my papers and books. My students will see me looking at them directly while I am working with them.
