My Students

I am a Special Education teacher in grades K-5. This year I will be working with students who require more intensive reading instruction. I use the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading as my primary instructional resource. My students' favorite part of their Orton-Gillingham reading lesson is always the read-aloud portion. They love listening to new books!

My Project

My students love the read-aloud portion of their reading lessons. I use pictures book read alouds to reinforce the phoneme that I am teaching in my Orton-Gillingham reading lessons. The students at my school come from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and I would like to add new picture books to my collection that show more diversity, give the students an opportunity to see themselves in the literature and help create excitement for reading. Many of the books that I have chosen will also expose students to cultures different than their own and help me build an environment of inclusivity in my groups.
