As a specialty teacher, I am so fortunate to be able to see almost every student in our school for music class. I work with every grade level from kindergarten to 6th grade. We have over a thousand students and I see over 250 of them every day. My students are working on reading music, playing instruments, and singing. They are creative, curious, and caring. They love music and are learning how important it is in our everyday lives. These kids inspire me with their resilience in hard times. I hope that music can help them to become great.
My Project
I believe that one of the most important outcomes of making music is making connections. These instruments will help my students make connections not only to the music, but to their own emotions as well as other curriculums such as science and math. The students will be connecting to music by learning to read notes and other music symbols and then playing the music thoughtfully. They will connect to their feelings and emotions by composing and creating beautiful pieces of music on their own to reflect those feelings. They will connect to other curriculums through composition. And, they will be able to connect to an audience through live or recorded performances.
