Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an elementary school located in the Bronx. Our school is a Title I school with 98% free and reduced lunch population. Most of our students are English language learners who have immigrated to the US in hopes of a better education.

Our students love engaging in fun activities that will help spark creativity.

They are fearless when it comes to technology and, as children of the 21st-century, they need to be prepared to use a variety of tools to engage their world.

My Project

As an educator of the 21st century, it is essential I provide my students with the various tools to be successful. No one can deny that technology is the future. It's evident in practically all areas of our lives. As of now, our classroom has fallen in love with Osmo games and STEAM activities. In honor of Women's History Month we have been learning about important women leaders who have paved the way for future STEM majors.

Coding and literature allows students to experience STEM in a way like never before.

When paired with an iPad, the Osmo transforms the area in front of the tablet into an interactive environment. The Osmo coding game will allow my students to continue to practice coding and create a code with the original code maker, Ada Lovelac. The read aloud books will give my students the opportunity to develop critical thinking and engineering skills. They will have the opportunity to build a lunar lander to help Apollo Astronauts land on the moon with Margaret Hamilton and even write and decipher binary code with Grace Hopper. Students will plan, design, and execute their own ideas. After they will complete a reflection on what worked and what didn't in their binding STEM journals.

This project will be a dream come true for our little scientists and English language learners. With your help, we can provide memories that will last a lifetime!
