Connecting Math/Science to Ss' Background and Experiences!

My students need compasses, protractors, a landform demonstration kit, iron fillings, and a good pencil sharpener to start the new school year. The resources will provide an opportunity for my children to express ideas in a variety of ways drawing, graphing, and charting, among others.

My Students

Do you remember what your science class was like? I remember listening to my teacher while he was telling about the different landforms found on Earth. I definitely do not want this type of learning for my students; I want them to be engaged in scientific inquiry.

I teach at a Title I school in which more than the 50% of the student population is composed of English Language Learners.

My fourth and fifth graders are eager to learn and thrive to be prepared and successful citizens for today's society. Their eyes light up when we begin our science and math class, yet we are in need of a few resources to continue with our journey.

My Project

The landform demonstration kit, compasses, protractors, iron fillings, science flip chart and school supplies are essential resources that will definitely provide an opportunity for my children to express ideas in a variety of ways drawing, graphing,charting, among others. By doing so, they will speak and write about science and math with their peers and parents. Consequently, my fourth and fifth graders will improve their conceptual knowledge and English Language skills!

Engagement is the key to students' success.

By having the appropriate resources, my students will speak science and math and acquire the language skills that will definitely help them be prepared for tomorrow's society. My fourth and fifth graders are inviting you to be part of their success!
