My Students

If you were to take a peek into my classroom, you would see young people representing countries such as Bangladesh, El Salvador, Guatemala, Japan, Mexico, Mongolia, Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and the United States. They speak a myriad of languages and work hard every day in order to be academically successful, go to college, and make their families proud as our nation's future, teachers, doctors, architects, and scientists.

A large majority, nearly 80% of my students, cannot afford many of the same technology and tools that other students can because they come from families with incomes that qualify them for federal assistance.

Some live in one-bedroom apartments with a family of five. Others work all weekend to help their parents pay the rent. Still others are in foster care or are homeless. Many have experienced overwhelming trauma. Yet, they bring with them a sense of joy and a love of learning. We are here to meet their needs and build their community.

My Project

My students' responses and contributions in our learning community will be heard clearly with wireless ear buds. Because I have to teach from home, I am often interrupted by my own young children which sometimes ends up with entanglement with earphone wires. Additionally, having an ergonomic mouse will allow me to easily (and painlessly) navigate programs to deliver lessons, record student ideas, and everything else that comes with using technology to teach through these times.

My students will have a smoother distance learning experience when their teacher has the necessary tools to provide quality instruction.

My students are majority BIPOC and I am a teacher of color. Our math classroom defies traditional norms in that we position every student as competent, highlighting the strengths everyone brings when they offer an idea for problem-solving. We examine and include math as we work on interdisciplinary projects around identity, colorism, and social movements and actions. Having access to technology tools will allow our students to more fully engage in education.
