My Project

Most of my 6th grade language art students are reluctant readers. They need to have incentives to read, and I am doing this by building a collection of multiple copies of high-interest titles. Because students are also required to read for social studies, these titles are multi-cultural or historical fiction.

My goals for this project are to increase interest in reading through in-class literature circles or more informal book clubs.

Middle schoolers love working with their friends, and I have found that encouraging them read together not only inspires them to finish, but also improves their comprehension. Students in my community need to be reminded about how fun reading can be!
