My Project

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Project: Pen Pals and Crafts

Project Title: "Connected Through Letters: Building Bonds & Creativity"

Project Overview:

This project aims to foster connections, empathy, and creativity among high school students by engaging them with pen pals through letter writing and collaborative craft activities. By exchanging letters and creating personalized crafts, students will learn to express themselves, understand different perspectives, and build lasting friendships, all while enhancing their communication and emotional skills.

Objectives:

Enhance Communication Skills: Improve written communication by letter writing.

Develop Empathy: Understand and appreciate diverse perspectives and life experiences through a pen pal relationship.

Encourage Creativity: Participate in craft projects that allow students to express themselves artistically.

Build Relationships: Foster a sense of community and connection among peers.

Project Components:

Pen Pal Program:

Each student will be paired with a pen pal from a local school. This introduces them to new ideas and experiences.

Students will write letters to their pen pals over the course of the project, discussing topics such as interests, hobbies, dreams, and challenges.

Letters will be exchanged regularly, promoting ongoing communication.

Creative Letter Crafting:

In addition to traditional letter writing, students will create decorative letter covers or envelopes using various art supplies (e.g., colored paper, markers, stickers).

Students can incorporate personal artwork or photographs to share their personality with their pen pal.

Reflection and Sharing:

After exchanging letters, students will participate in guided reflections to discuss their feelings about the pen pal experience.

They can share highlights of their correspondence with classmates, fostering a sense of community.

Second Project: "Building Joy: The Art of Piñata Creation"

high school students will engage in a collaborative and hands-on experience by designing and creating piñatas. By working together to create a piñata, students will learn valuable social skills and build relationships through a shared goal.
