My Students

I am a Reading Teacher for grades Kindergarten-5th grade in a Title One school in Raleigh, NC. My students are a diverse group who speak a variety of languages, come from many different places, engage in various extracurricular activities, and embrace countless new experiences. What they have in common is their desire to learn. Reading is the foundational block needed for students to engage in learning. Reading opens a whole new world for children. That's why I have the best job in the world. I get to open up the world of reading to my students! I want to give my students every opportunity to become lovers of reading that will lead to a lifetime of learning.

My Project

Some of my students have chosen virtual learning for the remainder of this school year, regardless of what our school system decides. I want all my students to feel like they are part of our class whether they are learning from home or in person.

I want to mail items to my students who are learning at home that will help all of us feel connected, stay motivated, and encourage engagement.

Some of the items, like the postcards, marker pens, and motivational cards, also encourage reading and writing. I chose items that would mail easily in a flat envelope so I can use media mail for more cost-effective shipping charges. The items will also be given to students who are learning in person and any leftover items will be added to our motivational reward box for future use.
