Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As a Resource teacher, I hardly get to meet the parents of my students. I think that home/ school connection is key to achieve success. When I get to communicate closely with a parent, there is much more consistency in the child's life. I am able to understand the home life and how it is affecting my student. Often, teachers assume many things about their students without finding out from the parents what is going on at home. I understand that it is extremely hard for teachers to make phone calls to parents due to timing restrictions. I found some great communication forms that will help me explain to the parents where their children are struggling and what they can do to help. I also found some great behavior forms to inform the parents about how the day went. Often, when parents collaborate with teachers, the children figure out that they have to behave in class due to consequences. Many of the students that I serve display behavior issues that are not notified to the parents until the child does something extreme. I would like to prevent that from happening by keeping in touch with the parents on a daily basis. I service about 25 children. They all have an IEP. I am their last resort before they are placed in a Special Education setting. I try to do my best by teaching my children according to their academic needs. Please let me keep in touch with my parents by sponsoring my proposal. I also applied to receive writing journals to complement the writing that I do with my students on a daily basis.
