Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My goal is to have my students analyze multiple sources of evidence and synthesize information through various texts. In order to make them truly college ready, they need to know how to use the Internet to find credible sources for analytic, as well as argumentative purposes.

I've launched a Google Classroom, and we're now using Blogger.

Many are unable to attend daily because their parents need them to care for minor siblings. Many are late walking siblings to school. Our school, for many of my students is the one safe, structured, loving environment that they have thus far been exposed to. They are so eager to learn, but are limited by their environment, and responsibilities that truly outweigh their ages. They're only 16 or 17 years old, but their stories range from living in shelters, bouncing from home to home, and lack of parental support. They want to go to college. I've since partnered with Syracuse University to launch the first SUPA course in the district. The Chrome Books would help my students to participate and have access to the classroom at all times. The articles that we discuss, the documentaries that are viewed, even the exams, and quizzes would be readily available.

My Project

On the Google Classroom, students would be able to view and post assignments. They'd benefit from peer to peer feedback, as well as direct feedback from me. There would also be no need for paper portfolios since each would have a Google Drive account automatically. They would be held more accountable for their work, and more importantly, they'd have the support that they need even if the demands of their environment keep them from attending.

With the range of information at their fingertips, the possibilities for exploration and innovation is boundless! The projects that they could create, the wide array of resources they'd now have access to would be immense!
