This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are diving deep into the controversies surrounding social and environmental injustices that they and others in their generation are poised to inherit. They are ready to change the world!

Students in my 7th grade ELA and Social Studies classroom are fired up about injustices around them.

I teach several classes of students from Queens with family roots from all over the world. They want to connect more, learn deeply and have an impact on the world around them.

My Project

The computers I am requesting for my classroom will give my students greater access for research. In our Social Studies and ELA classes, students debate controversial, timely topics on a weekly basis and position themselves on topics that are often overlooked in our study of American history.

Our students are taking on the social and environmental injustices surrounding the impact of hydraulic fracturing, the mining of conflict minerals, and the creation of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

They are working to create proposals to implement more sustainable and ethical extraction of resources.

Access to computers will help them develop their arguments even further.
