Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a 5th & 6th grade ESL teacher at Public School 115 in Washington Heights, New York City. My students come from a low-income community. Due to several factors, it's currently under evaluation. The school is a K-6 school and the student population in the school is 1,200 students, in which 85% are ESL students. I am a teacher that has a love for children. I want to see students excel to their maximum potential. As a teacher, I play the role of an educator, mother, nurturer, guidance counselor, and social worker. I have to be someone who can provide for my students' needs. Unfortunately, as a teacher I lack supplies that enhance students' learning. I am in need of 2 laptops, and ESL programs to further my students learning of English and expose them to the wonderful world of technology. Our school has installed wireless internet but my students never get the chance to use the ones we have in school because we have to share with the other grades. I believe having their own will help the students further develop their language skills and learn more about computers. Using the laptops, the students will use the ESL programs to help them with pronunciation of new words, help them how to match the picture with the word and introduce them to the wonderful world of English. The majority of the students I work with are new arrivals and have never been exposed to computers. I know that my students will benefit from this and with your help my students will learn faster and easier. If you could please assist my students, it would be very much appreciated!
