This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are bright young STEM Scholars from low-income households. They work hard in spite of the obstacles they may face, and they exhibit a type of resilience that I truly admire. They come to school every day eager to learn and on most days they do not even want to leave school because it's a place of respite and wonderment in which they can just be children and learn new things.
Our students are committed to learning and getting a quality education in hopes of ensuring successful outcomes for their lives.
As a school, we stress the importance of education. We have started a STEM Program that is still in need of funding to provide the equity and access that our scholars need in order to receive a high quality education.
Our students are excited about learning new things and are eager to engage in new engineering projects where they can create new solutions to real-life problems. Our students are competitive and enjoy engaging in educational activities in which they can achieve growth. I truly am honored to be a part of their educational journey as they are inquisitive and hardworking. Their perseverance is truly amazing!
My students will use the 5 Dell Latitude Laptop Computers to learn coding on Code.org, Robot C, Modkit, and Scratch during their STEM Specials class and as part of our after school robotics program. We currently do not have any laptop computers in our classroom and in a class of 25 students (per class period), students must share 2 working desktop computers to learn and practice coding. I'd like to reach more students with this project and by increasing the quantity of technology that is available to my students, we can meet that goal. Our students enjoy learning computer science lessons and aspire to have careers in various STEM areas.
This project has the potential to help change learning outcomes for my students by introducing algorithmic thinking to them in elementary school.
With this way of thinking, their math scores will improve as well as their ability to problem solve and engage in critical thinking. I'm looking forward to being able to provide these opportunities to my students with your help. They will be able to work in teams of 4-5 students to complete various project-based learning goals in computer science through coding. More students will have access to these lessons due to increasing the number of computers in the STEM classroom, which will in turn, help to improve learning for all of the students in the class.
