Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students want to learn and be the best that they can; yet they live in a neighborhood where the resources at hand do not match the level of their curiosity. These students live in the South Bronx in New York. They are little scientists who want to know everything!

My students show their curiosity by the number of questions they ask each day.

They look for answers to these questions in the books they read.

Unfortunately many of my students are reading below grade level. This means they cannot access the books that have all the answers to their questions.

My Project

One of the 2nd grade standards is to engage in research. We no longer use print encyclopedias to do this and neither should my 2nd graders if they are going to learn.

Twenty-first century learning skills are crucial to student success in the world we live in.

Yet in my classroom, we have no computers, so my students do not have the opportunity to develop computer literacy. Having Chromebooks in the classroom will ensure they have what they need to be successful. They can work together to research and write about the world around them and the world outside of their neighborhood.
