My Students

The 5th and 6th graders in my school are tech savvy but lack computers in their classrooms. There is one computer lab that must be shared by the entire school of 1100 students. When a teacher attempts to include a component in their lesson requiring a computer, they must make an appointment to use the lab. Time in the lab is limited to one 45 minute period. Sometimes the lab is not available for weeks. This is frustrating for both the teachers and students.

We are motivated to use technology in the classroom.

Our students have had the opportunity to research projects, learn about music and practice their math skills using a variety of websites and software available in the computer lab. They hunger for the chance to use technology in their everyday learning

My Project

Currently, I have space in the music room for 2 additional laptops. The students are eager to experiment with music writing and recording technology, but we need computers with the RAM and gigabytes to support the software available.

I have been working with students on composing, writing and recording their songs.

Some students are as young as 3rd and 4th grade and some of my students are special needs. The technology is available on my smartphone, but it is cumbersome when many students wish to hear their own music.

Adding 2 laptops with higher capability will allow me to teach them how to compose, arrange and record songs themselves.
