My Students

Our school is a growing charter school that in 2016-2017 will expand from currently serving scholars in grades K-2 to K-3. Our population is made up of a diverse group of scholars from all over Nashville, Tennessee.

Each year, our scholars continue to shatter stereotypes by reading and performing in math above grade level.

They consistently exceed rigorous academic expectations and outperform neighboring schools and counties. They epitomize the theory that young brains are sponges: full of curiosity, tenacity, grit, an insatiable desire to learn, and the capacity to do so.

My Project

Our students are now ready for the next challenge: computer science. Our technology-driven country is exponentially moving toward a workforce where technical fluency is no longer a luxury but a necessity. And, like any language, programming is one that is best digested at a young age.

Unfortunately many of our scholars currently lack access to the technology necessary to explore and satisfy their innate curiosity.

We want our scholars to continue their reputation of shattering expectations. We want to give them access to a foundation of computer science that will ignite a passion for STEM and coding. We want to give them the exposure to the unlimited world of technology, which many of their higher-income peers enjoy. We want to further enrich our school of game-changers, who will grow up to have an immeasurable impact on our world for the better.

Using the Piper computer kits and working with a teammate, scholars will build their own computers and, in doing so, learn the foundations of how computers work. From there, they will learn the basics of programming through Minecraft. After they learn the basics of how computers function and programming, the technological world will open up to them, and who knows what they will be able to do?
