This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class is full of bright-eyed, beautiful children who are excited to learn. The majority of them are low-income and many of them are coming to pre-kindergarten/Kindergarten already behind. They are ready and eager to learn new things and to have new experiences.
Our school is located in the city of Detroit and we are a Title I school where all of the students in the school qualify for free lunch.
Many of our students eat breakfast at school as well. This is the beginning of their educational experience and I want to make sure they have everything they need to be successful.
My Project
I am teaching 100% virtually and my computer is not really able to keep up. It is not able to fully run all of the apps needed to teach. There are also times when the sound goes out completely during lessons, which causes me to have to restart the computer and that takes 5 minutes to do. When I am finally able to return to the class some students have already given up and logged out.
A new computer would help me to give my students the type of virtual instruction that they deserve.
I would be able to teach without interruptions and it would save me valuable instructional time as well as improve learning outcomes for my students.
