Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I currently teach first grade at a Title I school on the Southside of Chicago. I have 28 students enrolled in my classroom. The students mostly come from low-income homes and according to the Illinois State Board of Education 98% of the students at my school were considered low-income in 2009.

Help, we are in desperate need of a computer station for our future computer that we hope to acquire through Donors Choose!

This computer station sits four students at a time and fits 4 chairs. Four students can gain valuable technological skills at the same time. They can engage in any subject, we can use the computer for writing, literacy, math, social studies, science and art.

My Project

The computer station will benefit my students in so many ways! The majority of my students are ELL (English Language Learners) students, which means that they are beginners in the English language. This computer station would be great because it would help them learn English by providing many visuals. Visuals are some of the best tools for teaching ELL students. Also, the computer station would be a great addition for our classroom because it would provide my students with technology. Since I teach at an inner city school that is overcrowded the first extracurricular programs to be eliminated from our school were the computer classes, so now my students are not being exposed to technology in any aspect!
