Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many students get the experience of creating an art pix masterpiece, a power point slideshow, and enhance a story by adding clip art. My students have not had the opportunity to use a desktop computer because we don't have an operating desktop computer in class, or access to the school's computer lab.

My kindergartners are at a big disadvantage because they don't even get a weekly visit to the "Computer Lab," or get to use one in the classroom.

My students do not get the opportunity to work independently at a computer. They do not get to share excitedly with their families what they did on a computer today. A desktop computer in our classroom will give my students endless opportunities to integrate art throughout our daily lessons. My students will have the opportunity to independently watch alphabet chants to enhance their phonemic awareness skills, they can begin to learn how to type a sentence and enhancing it by adding a clip art symbol that relates to the sentence, they can also use art pix to create an art masterpiece, they can also create a picture using geometric shapes with a computer. There are endless art and graphic activities my students can use on a computer to help them improve, reinforce, and master kindergarten common core standards.

My Project

Giving my students the opportunity to use art programs on the computer will begin to open their eyes to the technology world there is outside of school. This may be the exciting event in the school day they look forward too. This may be the event that makes students want to come to school. And this may be the event that in 12 years from now, they'll want to become a graphic designer, architect, or music composer. But I cannot give this opportunity to my students without having a desktop computer in my classroom.

Visual learning is one of the most critical methods many students learn.

With the use of a computer, students will be able to work at their own pace. They will get to listen to chants, look at rigorous animations, and create masterpieces. In today's world everything is media based and my students should be exposed to the outside world with a simple computer. This classroom desktop computer will probably be the only opportunity my students get to use because one is not available at home.
