Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember when you were in 7th grade and worried about being different? Or when you were outraged by social injustices and wanted to make change? My students want to read and explore the world and make a difference while they do it.

Students in my 7th grade ELA and Social Studies classroom are opinionated about today's controversial issues.

I teach several classes of students from Queens with family roots from all over the world. They want to connect more, learn deeply and change the world.

My Project

The computers I am requesting for my classroom will give my students greater access for research. In our Social Studies and ELA classes, students debate controversial, timely topics on a weekly basis and position themselves on topics uncovered in our study of American history.

In the last month alone, students have questioned the motivations of Federalists v Antifederalists in drafting the US Constitution, debated the responsibilities of schools and government in preventing high school dropouts, and questioned how enslaved people in America could have been freed after the outcome of the American Revolution.

Computers can help develop their arguments even further.
