My Project

This professional development is a Structured Literacy course, where I will build my capacity in the structure and foundation of the English language as well as the research behind the Science of Reading.

Students need to be able to understand the letters and sounds in words, how they work, and their meanings in order to learn how to read.

So often, students who struggle don't have the foundational knowledge in this area in order to be successful readers. Through this work, my goal is to build my own understanding of structured literacy best practices so that I can teach struggling students and coach teachers. This training will help me to understand the basic knowledge of how to assess and teach students in all three tiers of RTI as well as students with dyslexia.

By receiving this professional development training, I will be able to directly support even the most struggling readers through the Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Plus program. This program has been proven to support ALL students through multi-modal instruction that is engaging and purposeful. It will impact over 200 students at my school across multiple grade levels (K-4).
