My Students

I teach third grade, gifted and talented and I have twenty-seven students. My classroom is filled with a diverse group of students from all backgrounds, academic levels, etc. They are the coolest, most intelligent bunch of students I have ever met! They are hard working, entertaining, and motivated.

My students have a variety of strengths as well as a variety of needs, both academic and social.

I work hard to educate all learners in my room, and we have fun doing so each and every day.

My Project

We have been learning about Earth Science: preserving our planet (recycling/reusing), plants, animals, and life cycles. During one of our virtual field trips we learned about composting. The students really took an interest in that concept and thought it would be a great idea to further the research.

Composting in the classroom will teach the students how to recycle, reuse, and make their own rich soil to plant their own flowers and vegetables.

The students will involve their families in this ongoing project as well. Students will be given ziplock bags to fill with composting materials (egg shells, coffee grounds, apple cores, banana peels, etc.). They will bring them to school and fill the composting bin.

Students will have the responsibility for tending the compost bin (spraying with water, rotating the soil, making sure it doesn't stink, etc.). The students will be able to learn about recycling/reusing, organisms that help to break down waste and their life cycle, along with creating their own rich soil for planting.
