Help Ms. Brunson

I teach in a Title 1 school with 58% of students Kindergarten through Fifth grades on free and reduced lunch. There are 735 students who attend school here. Students come from many different cultural backgrounds and few do not have the means to attend concerts or buy music Cd's.

Hear a famous song on a cartoon that you enjoy and want to know about it? My school has students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade who come from many different backgrounds. Many will never set foot in a concert hall, much less have parents who will expose their students to classical music. Students are always asking or singing a song they heard on a cartoon, movie or TV show and ask who wrote it because they liked it. I don't have the supplies or money to expose them to the famous composers who they are begging to learn about.

The resources in Composer-mania will allow students to hear the classics beginning with the Baroque Era through the music of today. They will learn how music written 300 - 400 years ago does have an effect on what is written today. As the students listen to the music and look at the pictures of the composers, they will have a chance to learn how to write a composition of their own.

Your help with this project will allow many students - 735 total - to experience music in many different ways. They will experience different styles and forms of music they had never thought of. You will help students to hear the classics and learn how music from the past helps create music of today.
