My Project

One of my favorite parts of teaching English to high school students is connecting with them through discussions about books!

Some of my students absolutely love books; they come to me looking for a specific book, or come to me recommending that I read a specific book.

Others are reluctant readers who haven't read a book in its entirety in years. I love talking to both types of students.

For the students who are excited about reading, I love connecting with them through these mutual book recommendations. For the others, I love sharing that moment with them when they've finally found a book they've enjoyed. This project will help me bridge the gap between both of those types of students.

Each semester, my students complete an independent book project. They read a book of their choice (usually chosen from my classroom library) and complete various activities like drawings and other visual projects to demonstrate their mastery of the standards.

Many of my students are enjoying books in a series, but, inevitably, books go missing which makes it difficult for other students to read that same book series. These books will help us complete the book series where we're missing books.
