My Project

For this project, my students will incorporate math, science, social studies, engineering, and social studies in order to create empathetic housing for everyone. We will specifically focus on housing that is environmentally friendly while also being adaptable for people of all needs as well as being empathetic to indigenous plants and animals.

The items requested will help my students to use their critical thinking skills as well as to gain an understanding of people who have different needs.

Students will also learn about environmental empathy as they create structures that not only suit people, but the surrounding environment. Students will use 3D printer filament to bring their designs to life in a tangible format that also provides them with engineering and computer design experience. Students will experiment with a variety of ways to power their homes, including battery power and solar power. Students will also use cardboard to create exterior structures and test durability based on construction material and construction shape. Students will work to help those that they are creating for by providing showings and public discussions or their work to create awareness. Additionally, student success will be measured by an increase in empathy toward people and the environment as it pertains to our local surroundings. For example, less referral for behaviors and less conflict on the school yard.

Goals will be for my students to gain an understanding of creating for everyone as well as to develop a sense of compassion for those with challenges. Goals also include achievement of grade level standards throughout the process.

My students are special because they are enthusiastic learners who enjoy challenges and making a difference in the world.
